William L. Gervin has been a law enforcement officer for 17 years with the
Virginia Beach Police Department. He is currently a Lieutenant in the Operations division and serves as the night shift commander of the 3rd precinct. His former positions include police selection officer, community policing squad, mobile tactics, academy fitness coordinator and defensive tactics instructor. As a Sergeant he served as an Operations Division supervisor at the 2nd precinct, as the departments Selection and Recruiting Sergeant, as well as Detective Bureau Domestic Violence and Missing Persons Sergeant.
He graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and from Troy University with a Masters in Public Administration. He instructs Fair and Impartial Policing as well as Leadership In Police Organizations for the Virginia Beach Police Department. He is a graduate of the FBI NA’s First Line Supervisors School as well as the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police’s Professional Executive Leadership School. He currently serves as the Financial Secretary on the Executive Board for the Hampton Roads chapter of NOBLE.
